Blue Beetle is a teenager from El Paso who isn’t even sure he deserves the mantle he’s inherited. Across three key episodes, Rise of the Blue Beetle, Fall of the Blue Beetle, and Revenge of the Reach, the series tells a thoughtful story about legacy in superhero animation. Jaime begins his journey believing the scarab chose him for a reason. But what he eventually discovers is far more unsettling: the power he carries was never meant to create a hero at all. In this video, I explore how the show transforms the Blue Beetle myth. From the original Golden Age hero Dan Garrett to the gadget-building genius Ted Kord, the mantle has always been about legacy. But with Jaime Reyes, the story becomes something deeper, a question about destiny, identity, and whether heroes are chosen or whether they choose who they become. By the time Jaime faces the truth about the alien empire known as The Reach, the answer becomes clear: destiny doesn’t make a hero.
