Currently Playing: Should You Buy Marvel's Wolverine?

It's wolving time or something Thanks @PlayStation for the review code! Marvel’s Wolverine is coming out in a few days, and I have one question to answer; should you buy the game? Before we start though, I want to mention that this will be a spoiler free review, and that means that I won’t be showing any footage past the first few hours, and I won’t be providing specific examples of story criticisms in order to keep the experience fresh for you if you decide to pick up the game at any point; and to give it away early, yes, I do think this is a good game worth the money... depending on what you’re looking for. Unfortunately I think one of the biggest things working against this game, will be the expectations of people who are familiar with Insomniac's previous marvel games, like Spider-Man 2, and I think it would be most worthwhile to start this review by explaining the differences between a game like this and Spider-Man 2. For as much as Spider-Man 2 was a disappointment to many for things like its story, lacking side content, and questionable design decisions; for what it’s worth, I think this game answers a lot of those criticisms exceptionally well. The first criticism that I feel was properly answered here is the abundance of moments where we are not in the action. Spider-Man 2 specifically had a litany of long segments where we played as the person under the mask, or as someone adjacent to the mask, and while that *can* be an interesting way to view the main characters through a secondary perspective, it makes the experience from the players standpoint a bit dicey, especially when it comes to pacing. Here, we never leave control of Wolverine, to the point where I think we were originally meant to. There are some moments, where the camera would hang over another character's shoulder, as if we were going to play as someone like Jean Grey, and instead, we stick with Logan. There are also significantly less moments where we are just walking around, outside of a segment early on, and even then, that segment is easily skipped in new game plus, and the meat of that content is optional, which is great for replays. To continue with the things that this game is NOT, I want to clarify that this game is in no way open world, in fact, I would go as far as to say that this is the most linear game that Insomniac has ever made. I was consistently reminded of Uncharted, and in mostly good ways, such as in moments when we climb something, and a piece of a cliff gives way, forcing us to take a different path. Some of the not so good ways it resembles Uncharted is in the ways that the game insists on keeping moments on rails in moments where it’s not realistic to do so. For example, during the opening mission, we have to run head first into a mutant prison, and my thought was, instead of running directly at the guns that were shredding me, I should move along the side, but I strayed too far from the desired path, so I got blown up instantly, with no option to regenerate, as you would normally get in gameplay. It’s a minor issue, but it speaks to a wider design philosophy, which is that, as long as you keep your hands in the ride at all times, you’ll have a seamless experience. Wolverine is the latest game from insomniac, specifically titled marvels wolverine, and this Wolverine review will answer the question; should you buy marvels wolverine. This will be a spoiler free marvels wolverine review, though in order to tell you if should you buy wolverine, I'll need to mention some minor spoilers. This wolverine gameplay takes place in the first few hours, but if I do a full wolverine critique or wolverine analysis I'll spoil all the wolverine secrets. There has been quite some wolverine controversey, but this video is everything wolverine before you buy, though, if you've seen the wolverine trailer and already decided to buy it, then don't watch this, as it might hint at the wolverine ending and or some wolverine easter eggs.
