Currently Playing: Chaos Sphere (Spheregrity 12) - What more asymmetric spheregrities are there to explore?

Print it yourself at https://oskarvandeventer.nl/Print-It-Yourself/. Buy at Chaos Sphere was created together with Robin Houston and Diogo Sousa. When I solved Derek Bosch's Icosahedron Frequency-3 Sphere puzzle (https://www.printables.com/model/1692526-icosahedron-frequency-3-sphere-puzzle) I wondered how we could design a similar "spheregrity" that has no intrinsic symmetry. An implicit requirement was that all sticks are arcs of a great circle on a sphere. Once I had formulated my challenge, I knew whom to turn to for answers. Diogo found a 12-edge graph-on-a-sphere that has no intrinsic symmetry (topologically), and he also found is is the smallest one (minimum number of edges) possible. Surprisingly, that graph is self-dual. Robin subsequently performed several rounds of optimization for placing the edges on the sphere, and I developed the prototypes. The result is a pleasing 80-mm diameter sphere made of twelve pieces in twelve different colors. We suspect that the puzzle is quite hard to solve. So feel free to look at photos of the solved state.
