When one inserts a hole at the bottom (by removing a marble), the hole will float all the way up, with marbles going one step down one by one. The design of this marble track was highly complex. The slope should be not too steep, as marbles would push each other out. The slope should be not too gentle, as marbles would not start to roll when it is their turn. The slope needed to be non-uniform, steepest where the marbles wait, and gentle where the marbles roll. The size of the grid should match the size of the marble. Because of this, the walls needed to stay low, risking marbles running out. It took over a dozen of prototypes to get all parameters right. Inverse Marble Run is based on the Hilbert Curve. It is available in three sizes: 16, 64 and 256 marbles. The marbles should be exactly 10 millimeter in diameter. The run should be 3D-printed with three support and zero millimeter spacing between track and support. Copyright (c) 2026, M. Oskar van Deventer.
