Zack asked me to design a special super-difficult puzzle ring to propose to his girlfriend Melissa. Together, we came to a linking pattern with six rings in a loop that together form a - sort-of - Star of David. A rope tool was used to design the puzzle. It was quite hard to design, as most random designs don't come apart. I found one inspired by earlier work by Bram Cohen. The first two rings, green and black, swivel sideways. Even after that move the rings stay well together and more complex manipulation is needed. The puzzle is very hard to solve. The color 3D-printing was achieved by printing each ring individually. For some rings, the 3D-printer was stopped mid-way, and other rings were linked to it.The ring can also be printed in a single solid color, using tree support. Copyright (c) 2026, M.
