Teaching your dog to spin is more than just a fun trick. It is really excellent for getting our dogs to understand how their body works. If you have your dog in front of you and want them to flip into the heel position, that is just a half spin. Not every dog is going to do a full spin right away. You might have to reward the effort until you eventually get the full spin. Once your dog is able to spin consistently, you want to start fading the physical cue so you can get them to do it without a big physical movement. Then, try to do the spin as you walk backwards. We want to be able to get them to spin into the heel position, and this is exactly how we build that foundation.
