Want to level up your food handling skills? It is time to practice switching hands on the fly! In this stationary exercise, we build on our basic food handling by switching our supply and reward hands each time we treat the dog. As you bring your reward hand up, prep your other hand by locking your thumb on one treat and dropping the rest of the pile over. It sounds simple, but once dog saliva gets in the mix, those treats will start to stick together! Do not stress if you drop a few or have extra pieces left in your hand. The main goal is to be quick, keep your dog nice and close to maintain their position, and seamlessly switch back and forth. Practice this without your dog first to get the mechanics down before adding the distraction of a hungry pup!
