Are you holding your dog's training treats wrong? If you're holding food in your fingertips, you're never going to get your dog to perform as well. Instead, place the food in your hand and use your thumb to secure it in position. This creates a little "valley" for your dog's muzzle, giving you much more control to manipulate their head. Why does this matter? Because wherever the head goes, the butt does the opposite! Controlling their head is the key to effortlessly guiding them into the behaviors you want. Make sure to show your dog how this looks from all angles straight down, looking up, and on both sides. Be patient; if they go for your fingers at first, just wait until they find the food.
