Does your dog only listen when they see a treat in your hand? This is a very normal stage, as dogs initially look for visual value before performing a behavior. But eventually, we want them to learn that their behavior is what actually drives the production of the reward. One of the best techniques for this is capturing. Think of capturing like taking a photo of a behavior you like and putting it in your dog's brain. For example, if your dog randomly goes and sits on their bed, you instantly mark it with a yes or a click, and follow it up with a treat. You didn't ask them to do anything, but their good behavior made the reward magically appear! This teaches them that you are always a reward dispenser, making them much more enthusiastic to listen and learn.
