Explore: pyq.competishun.com --------------- Basic Organic Chemistry-IUPAC Nomenclature | Chemistry by N.S Sir | Class 11 & 12 | IIT JEE Main & Advanced In this video lecture by Neeraj Saini Sir (#NS_Sir) various terms used in Organic Chemistry have been explained with examples which are very important to understand the concepts of Organic Chemistry. Topics covered in this lecture of Basic Terms of Organic Chemistry (Class 11 &12 | IIT JEE Main & Advanced) by N.S Sir with timestamps are as follows:- 00:00 - 01:54 :- Definition of Hydrocarbon In organic chemistry, a hydrocarbon is an organic compound consisting entirely of hydrogen and carbon.Hydrocarbons are examples of group 14 hydrides i.e Benzene(C6H6),Ethylene(C2H4),Acetylene(C2H2) etc. 01:55 - 02:35 : - Origination of Organic Compounds The word organic is derived from "living organism" . Earlier it was believed that Orgainc Compounds are obtained only from living organisms such as plants and animals and one Organic Compound can only make another Organic Compound. 02:36 - 03:27 :-Vital Force Theory ( given by Berzelius ) Vital Force Theory is a theory made by the Scientist Berzelius in 1809 which assumed that organic compounds are only formed in living cells and it is impossible to prepare them in laboratories. 03:28 - 05:04 :-Wohler Synthesis Friedrich Wohler showed that it was possible to obtain an organic compound (urea) in the laboratory. His synthesis of the organic compound urea in the laboratory from inorganic substances contradicted the belief that organic compounds could only be produced by living organisms due to a "life force".The Wรถhler synthesis is the conversion of ammonium cyanate into urea. An inorganic compound (NH4CNO) on heating at Room Temperature yields an Organic Compound (NH2-C=O-NH2). 05:05 - 05:50 :-Kolbe's synthesis Reaction of carbon with metallic hydrogen in the presence of electric arc to produce acetylene gas which on further synthesis yeilded other organic compounds. 05:51 - 9:30 :- Definition of Organic Compounds Hydrocarbons or derivates of Hydrocarbons are referred to as organic compounds. Elements which constitute organic compounds are:-Tetravelnt Carbon(essential),Halogens(F,Cl,Br,I),Hydrogen,Sulphur,Oxygen,Nitrogen etc.,These are covalent bond containing compounds. 9:50 - 14:40 :-Catenation definiton with examples Catenation is the self-linking of atoms of an element to create chains and rings.Carbon has maximum catenation capacity due to tetravalency and strong bond formation tendency. The capacity to create double bonds, the ability to form different types of double bonds, and the configuration of the element's molecular orbitals surrounding the atom are all electronic and steric factors that affect catenation.
