Example:There are 6 C atoms and 14 H atoms in a hexane molecule, which has a molecular formula of C6H14. 01:52 - 02:47 :-Definiton of Structural Formula The structural formula of a chemical compound is a graphic representation of the molecular structure (determined by structural chemistry methods), showing how the atoms are possibly arranged in the real three-dimensional space. 02:48 - 05:28 :-Types of Structural Formula A)Expanded Structural Formula-Expanded structural formula shows all of the bonds in the compound.It shows or represents the compounds in chain strucutres.Example-Butene. B)Condensed Structural Formula-Condensed structural formula omits most or all of the bonds. Example-Butane in condensed form is written as CH3-CH2-CH2-CH3. C)Bond Line Notation-Images that are symbolized using bond-line notation, which uses "zig-zag" lines to represent the bonds that exist between consecutive carbon atoms, are generated by eliminating specific structural components from a provided expanded, VSEPR, or condensed picture. 05:29 - 09:00 :-Explanation of Examples in which we need to convert the Condensed Structural Formula to Bond Line Strucutres. 09:01 - 14:25 :- Homologous series definiton Homologous series is a series of compounds with similar chemical properties and some functional groups differing from the successive member by CH2. Carbon chains of varying lengths have been observed in organic compounds having the same general formula.They also have same degree of Unsaturation. 14:42 - 19:28 :- Members of Homologous series Alkane(CnH2n+2)-Methane(CH4),Ethane(C2H6),Propane(C3H8) and so on. Alkene(CnH2n)-Ethene(C2H4),Propene(C3H6) and so on. Alkyne(CnH2n-2)-Acetylene(C2H2),Propyne(C3H4) and so on. Alcohol(CnH2n+1,OH)-Methanol(CH3OH),Ethanol(C2H5OH) and so on Carboxylic acid(CnH2nO2)-Formic acid(CH2O2), Acetic acid (C2H4O2) and so on.
