We made this modern side table using just 2x4s - less than $9 in wood - as part of the Modern Maker #two2x4challenge. This was a little labor of love - but we do love it! 👇 materials & links below! 👇 ……………………………………………………………… GET STRAIGHT TO THE ACTION 0:36 ……………………………………………………………… FREE PLANS http://evanandkatelyn.com/project-plans/ ……………………………………………………………… SUPPORT US ON PATREON (if you want) https://www.patreon.com/evanandkatelyn ……………………………………………………………… WRITTEN TUTORIAL http://evanandkatelyn.com/2017/05/diy-2x4-side-table/ ……………………………………………………………… TOOLS / MATERIALS (affiliate) Two 10 feet 2x4s……….......….https://goo.gl/ZzNn59 Titebond III……………...…..........http://amzn.to/2qgy4Kn Titebond Original..................http://amzn.to/2qqIHKB Wood glue brush…........……...http://amzn.to/2quERPB Shellac………………….............…..http://amzn.to/2oYGSUx Wax polish (Briwax)..............http://amzn.to/2pyh58B Wood filler.………...........………..http://amzn.to/2ra5zBc 600 grit sandpaper……….......http://amzn.to/2raasdF Planer………………….....…...........http://amzn.to/2rzA2JK Table saw…………...…….......…..http://amzn.to/2pUn4CD Miter saw..............................http://amzn.to/2nl6uwK Random orbit sander........….http://amzn.to/2nlhYQL Sanding block…………........…..http://amzn.to/2rAk1TL Router……………….…...........…...http://amzn.to/2n5zR43 Bessey clamps……..….......…..http://amzn.to/2qgzapj ½” (dia) dovetail bit…........….http://amzn.to/2r1eq8d Chisels…………………............…..http://amzn.to/2s8PJE5 ……………………………………………………………… FILMING GEAR (affiliate) Fujifilm X-T10........................http://amzn.to/2pblgac Panasonic DMC-FZ300........http://amzn.to/2ojCx1O Microphone..........................http://amzn.to/2psb4s2 Joby GorillaPod tripod.........http://amzn.to/2qqdXZR Ballhead for tripod...............http://amzn.to/2psfeQI ……………………………………………………………… STAY UP TO DATE Subscribe....https://goo.gl/gB91hW Instagram....http://instagram.com/evanandkatelyn @evanandkatelyn Blog.............http://evanandkatelyn.com Facebook....http://facebook.com/evanandkatelyn Pinterest.....https://www.pinterest.com/evanandkatelyn/ ……………………………………………………………… ETSY SHOP http://etsy.com/shop/evanandkatelyn ……………………………………………………………… WEBSITE http://evanandkatelyn.com/ ……………………………………………………………… MUSIC Electro Brass by Joakim Karud More thoughts on the project: While this side table was one of our more difficult projects because of the "fancy" joinery techniques we used (angled dados) and the cheaper, more difficult to work with materials, the fact that the 2x4s were cheaper is actually what allowed us to freely experiment with the angled dados in the first place. It does seem ironic that the cheaper your material gets, the more tools (which can cost a lot) you seem to need to get it into shape. But we did learn other valuable lessons experimenting with this 2x4 side table other than just how to do angled dados! We also dealt with snipe from our planer for the first time, and I'm so glad we learned on cheap wood rather than something expensive. In addition, this was our first furniture piece held together only by glue (no screws!). Lastly, it was our first time doing the finishing combination recommended by David Picciuto of coats of shellac followed by a buffing of wax. It was really easy, really forgiving, and we love how the finish turned out.
