Currently Playing: ‘The Washing on the Siegfried Line’ - British WW2 Song

‘The Washing on the Siegfried Line’ is a British patriotic song from the Second World War, written in 1939 by Irishmen James Kennedy. The ‘Siegfried Line’ being a long line of fortifications along the western edge of Germany. The song would become immensely popular and pick up more lyrics and verses as the war progressed. Leslie Sarony and Leslie Holmes would later add another verse beginning with ‘Everybody’s mucking in and doing their job,’. The song is sometimes titled with the words ‘we’re going to hang out’ added. I’m unsure who this recording is originally made by.
