Currently Playing: "Babylon Is Fallen" - Millenarian Hymn

"Babylon Is Fallen” is a 19th-century Shaker hymn, written by Richard McNemar and published in 1813 in the "Millennial Praises". Its content shows the nature of the Shakers and their related Christian movements, purified Christian living and awaiting the Second Coming, with "Babylon Is Fallen" specifically being about the Book of Revelation. Babylon, or Babel, represents a manly and earthly fight against God as well as all the vices associated. Note: I decided to use a map and flag of New England for this video because, historically, the Shakers were heavily concentrated there, especially in Maine. I also chose to title this a "Millenarian Hymn" rather than a "Shaker Hymn" because Millenarian has a less niche appeal and because the song has seen adoption into other non-Shaker denominations of Christianity.
