After months on the road traveling across America performing free recoveries for families, veterans, nonprofits, and small businesses in need, it was finally time to keep a promise to the girls. Ever since we left home, they’ve been asking one simple question: “When are we going fishing?” With a rare break in the schedule, Wrecker Rick points the trucks toward the beautiful waters of Missoula, Montana, determined to make up for lost time and create memories that will last forever. The family spends the day surrounded by Montana’s incredible scenery while trying their luck catching rainbow trout. There’s nothing quite like watching kids experience the excitement of feeling that first bite, setting the hook, and reeling in dinner together. Sometimes the greatest adventures don’t involve massive recoveries or impossible rescues—they’re found in the quiet moments shared with the people you love most. Of course, Wrecker Rick isn’t about to let anyone go hungry. Once the fishing is done, he fires up an old-fashioned Dutch oven over an open campfire and prepares a delicious meal using the fresh trout they caught that day. If you’ve watched Murphys Diesel for long, you already know that camp cooking has become one of Rick’s favorite traditions on the road. Whether it’s breakfast before a recovery or dinner after a long day of traveling, there’s just something special about cooking over an open fire with family gathered around. But dinner isn’t the only thing on the menu. Never one to miss an opportunity to be “Always A Gentleman,” Wrecker Rick surprises Mrs. Wrecker Rick with a homemade campfire dessert, proving that romance doesn’t require fancy restaurants—sometimes all you need is a crackling fire, the stars overhead, and someone worth sharing the moment with. This isn’t our typical episode filled with impossible recoveries, broken equipment, heavy wreckers, or massive machines buried to the frame. There are no dozers stuck in the mud, no excavators in creeks, and no trucks hanging off cliffs. Instead, this episode is about something even more important. It’s about recovering something we can never buy back once it’s gone: time with our children. Life on the road has taken our family to places we never imagined. We’ve crossed countless states, helped complete strangers free of charge, met incredible people, and experienced adventures we’ll never forget. But in the middle of all the miles and all the work, it’s easy to forget that our own kids deserve adventures too. This fishing trip is a reminder that while helping others is one of our greatest passions, making memories together as a family is just as important.
