Remember when Rick rushed thousands of miles to Alaska to help rescue a Sisu Nasu tracked all-terrain vehicle that had fallen through the ice near the Yukon River? As the Yukon River began melting and spring breakup made travel increasingly dangerous, some of the equipment had to be left behind until conditions were safe enough to return. Now summer has arrived, and Wrecker Rick, Mrs. Wrecker Rick, and the whole Murphys Diesel family are heading back to Alaska to see what happened to everything that was left behind. Getting there is an adventure all by itself. This isn’t a normal heavy-duty towing job sitting alongside a highway where we can simply pull up with a wrecker. After traveling up the Yukon, Wrecker Rick and Mrs. Wrecker Rick camp out beside the equipment and get a firsthand look at just how different this part of Alaska is during the summer. What was once a frozen landscape covered in snow and dangerous river ice has completely transformed into miles of beautiful wilderness, flowing water, thick vegetation, and scenery that feels almost untouched. For a channel usually filled with extreme off-road recovery, diesel trucks, heavy equipment, winching, rigging, fabrication, and some of the biggest wreckers we can build, this trip gives us the chance to slow things down and experience another side of the adventure. Even then, this is still Murphys Diesel. Put Wrecker Rick in the middle of nowhere with abandoned equipment, diesel engines, a Sisu Nasu, and machines that have been sitting through an Alaskan winter, and there is always a chance that something is going to need repaired, recovered, moved, or brought back to life. This Alaska series has become much more than a single recovery. It’s about getting into places most people never see, meeting people who live and work in some of the most remote parts of the country, and bringing the family along for the ride.
