Britain and France declared war on Germany to defend Poland in September 1939. So why did Poland still have to fight the German invasion largely alone? Poland’s strategy depended on surviving long enough for France to launch a major offensive against Germany in the west. But the German advance moved faster than Allied plans anticipated. Britain and France declared war on September 3, and French troops began the limited Saar Offensive days later. By September 8, however, German forces had already reached the outskirts of Warsaw. The guarantee succeeded in turning Germany’s invasion into a wider European war - but it couldn’t create a second front quickly enough to save Poland. Watch our original week-by-week World War II episode from September 8, 2018, to see how Germany reached Warsaw so quickly. #WW2 #WorldWar2 #Poland #History #shorts Join us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TimeGhostHistory Or join the TimeGhost Army directly at: https://timeghost.tv/signup/ Check out our TimeGhost History YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/timeghost Between 2 Wars: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrG5J-K5AYAU1R-HeWSfY2D1jy_sEssNG Follow WW2 Day by Day on Instagram: @ww2_day_by_day Follow TimeGhost History on Instagram: @timeghosthistory Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimeGhostHistory/ Source literature list: https://bit.ly/SourcesWW2 Archive footage: Screenocean/Reuters - https://www.screenocean.com A TimeGhost chronological documentary produced by OnLion Entertainment GmbH. #timeghost #timeghost #history #historical #history #worldwartwohistory #worldwartwo #ww2 #ww2history #historymatters #maps #cartography #camo
