AURORA - TRACK-BY-TRACK ARIADNE 'Aurora' is OUT NOW: https://yes-band.lnk.to/AuroraID "I always thought the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur held the perfect subject matter for progressive rock lyrics," explains Jon. "It contains all the dramatic elements of heroism, unrequited love, tragedy, and good conquering over evil. From 'The Quest' writing sessions, Geoff and I had a fairly solid outline of 'Ariadne', which we were confident could be a great song given more time. We felt we were missing a few pieces that didn't materialize until two years later, when Billy submitted some interesting themes that struck me as the missing link." "Geoff and I had a longer track we'd presented called 'Onto Another Plane'," Billy continues. "It was quite a long piece of music. A section of it was absorbed into 'Ariadne'." While "Aurora" quickly revealed itself as a perfect opportunity for collaboration, Steve and Paul played the entire album to see what else might be appropriate for orchestration. "I don't want to put orchestra where it doesn't need to go," says Paul. "So we listened to the album and, in the end, we chose 'Aurora' and 'Ariadne'. Both were very well fleshed out when I heard them, which made it clear what I could do. With 'Ariadne', Geoff had those string lines in the composition, so it was a great indicator of where an orchestra could fit. 'Embellished' may be the right word for what I added.
