Heavy Rain is an Ogryn blues chain gang song about Gav after the death of Bob. This follows the story from the earlier Gav and Bob songs. Bob is gone, and Gav is left sitting still, unable to move, unable to eat, unable to laugh, and unable to understand why the whole world feels heavy. When Gav finally laughs at a small man’s joke, the laugh feels wrong. He feels shame, as if laughing means leaving Bob behind. But Bob would have laughed too. This song is about grief, depression, guilt, crying, memory, and the first small step forward. Gav is not healed. Gav is not fixed. Gav takes one step, but Gav has long to go. This is my own idea for what transpired right after Bob died.
