“Traitor Killer” is a grimdark Raven Guard-inspired song about Nykona Sharrowkyn’s second duel with Lucius during the Horus Heresy. Lucius believes he has entered a glorious duel. Sharrowkyn treats it as work. The scene takes place around the Maugetar Stone, during the events surrounding Fulgrim, Perturabo, the Emperor’s Children, the Iron Warriors, and the shattered loyalists still fighting through the ruin left by Isstvan. In the wider conflict, two Primarchs are nearby: Fulgrim of the Emperor’s Children and Perturabo of the Iron Warriors, their own rivalry and corruption casting a shadow over the battlefield. Lucius comes into the fight as a romanticist of violence: arrogant, beautiful, theatrical, obsessed with the duel, the blade, the name, and the glory. He thinks Sharrowkyn has been forced into his kind of fight. Sharrowkyn sees it differently. The rifle is gone. Range is gone. That leaves blades. This is not a song about honour. It is not a song about heroic swordplay. It is about a professional killer measuring distance, reading guard, closing the gap, and ending a problem. Lucius wants the moment to mean something. Sharrowkyn denies him even that.
