Fatal Fury Special was a tremendous success and still maintains a cult following to this day. SNK had their work cut out for them with the next Fatal Fury game and decided to axe a bunch of the existing cast, and try out new things with the lane-switching system. It... didn't really work very well! It's a game with fantastic aesthetics and presentation, but gameplay wise it just... doesn't feel like it's all there, really. An interesting experiment that paves the road for further sequels...
