We dragged home what’s barely a Porsche 356 – a chopped up shell with missing floors, hacked panels, and a roof held on with tape. But we’ve got BIG plans. Think Porsche 356 meets modern performance.

In this episode of our Dream Porsche Restoration, we do something that looks completely backwards — on purpose. We start with a pair of badly repaired, rusted, and damaged Porsche doors and take them all the way through bodywork, restoring the shape, gaps, and surfaces to a level that matches immaculate original factory doors. Once the panels are correct, they’re painted and finished to a standard most restorations would stop at. Then we do the unthinkable. Instead of refitting them, we use those perfectly body-worked doors to create precision composite molds. These molds become tools — allowing future metal repairs to be carried out faster, more accurately, and with far less rework. It’s a process rooted in coachbuilding, engineering, and repeatable restoration, not just one-off panel beating. This is what working backwards really means: doing the hard work once, so every repair that follows is better, faster, and more consistent. If you’re interested in Porsche restoration, advanced bodywork, metal shaping, composites, or how high-end builds are engineered rather than guessed, this episode shows the thinking behind the process — not just the result. Chapters / Topics Covered *Assessing damaged and previously repaired Porsche doors *High-level bodywork and surface correction *Comparing repaired panels to original factory doors *Paint preparation and finishing for mold accuracy *Creating composite molds from finished body panels *Using molds as tools for precision metal repair This episode is part of our ongoing Dream Porsche Restoration, where we blend traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering to build the car properly — not just cosmetically.
