The Most Critical Welds of Our Porsche Build | 356 to 718 Restomod Every build has a defining moment — and for our Porsche 356 / 718 Frankenstein, this is it. In this episode, we bring in a specialist aluminium welder to join critical 6000-series structural members, as Pete and Anthony fabricate a pair of custom sill (rocker) panels to merge the shortened Porsche 718 Boxster S platform with the new, lengthened Porsche 356 wheelbase. Why change the wheelbase? We’ve extended it from 2100 mm to 2211 mm, matching the first 911. This modification dramatically improves chassis stability while maintaining the perfect weight distribution that makes the 718 one of the best-handling Porsches of all time — now reborn under a classic 356 body.
