But, in this case, we are not talking about generic network equipment such as routers and modems. Network appliances are specialized devices, physical or virtual, designed to perform specific functions within an organization's network infrastructure. Their primary purpose is to monitor, filter, redirect, protect, or enhance network traffic, thereby contributing to the security, availability, and performance of the business environment. Some appliances filter content, others inspect traffic for threats, and some allow for controlled access between zones. By strategically distributing them within the network, the security posture is strengthened through granular control of communications and the ability to react to anomalous activity. RESUMEN Los Dispositivos de red juegan un papel fundamental como herramientas especializadas de defensa. Pero, en este caso, no estamos hablado de equipos de red genéricos como routers y módems. Los network appliances son dispositivos especializados, físicos o virtuales, diseñados para cumplir funciones específicas dentro de la infraestructura de red de una organización. Su propósito principal es supervisar, filtrar, redirigir, proteger o mejorar el tráfico de red, contribuyendo así a la seguridad, disponibilidad y rendimiento del entorno empresarial. Algunos appliances filtran contenido, otros inspeccionan tráfico en busca de amenazas, y algunos permiten establecer accesos controlados entre zonas. Al distribuirlos estratégicamente dentro de la red, se fortalece la postura de seguridad mediante el control granular de las comunicaciones y la capacidad de reacción ante actividades anómalas.
