Its primary objective is to allow or block the flow of information, preventing unauthorized access and protecting internal systems from external threats. In their technological evolution, today's firewalls incorporate logging and monitoring capabilities that facilitate the identification of intrusion attempts and anomalous behavior, which contributes significantly to the early detection of cyberattacks. Furthermore, their effectiveness as a defense mechanism depends largely on precise configuration and strategic placement, given that they act proactively and reactively both at the perimeter and at the core of corporate networks. Types of Firewalls Firewalls have evolved over time to respond to new cybersecurity challenges. There are several ways to classify firewalls based on their perspective, such as their historical evolution or capabilities. While there is no definitive classification, it is important to conceptually understand the differences between them.
