Attackers often exploit human nature as the weakest link in security, using deception and manipulation to gain unauthorized access or information. Human vectors refer to the ways in which cybercriminals exploit human behavior as an attack surface. Instead of hacking systems, they manipulate individuals into compromising security. Social engineering is a broad term for a set of techniques that trick people into revealing confidential information or taking actions that benefit attackers, often by exploiting emotions. IBM defines social engineering as "manipulating people into sharing information they shouldn’t share, downloading software they shouldn’t download, visiting websites they shouldn’t visit, or making other mistakes that compromise their security".
