Phetchaburi is less than two hours driving from Bangkok- and yet, it's completely forgotten and ignored; lost along the highway connecting the capital to some of the world's most popular beach cities. And yet- it's a place with more than 1000 years of history and with one of the most unique food cultures anywhere on the planet. In fact, it's been honored by UNESCO for culinary heritage, and still, somehow, it remains a secret even in its own back yard. We took a road trip to visit Phetchaburi and discovered the town through three of its most famous endemic dishes- Khao Chae, or rice soaked in jasmine water; Khanom Jeen noodles with unique local toppings; and curry made from the fruit of the Toddy Palm tree.
