In the last video I wound the stator, but had more work to do before I could test the results. I start out wiring the stator into star configuration, then enamel it with Glyptal enamel. I put the generator back together and discover a significant problem. 2 of the line-line tests are giving MUCH lower voltage than they should. I determine that phase 2 is reversed, so I rewire the stator flipping phase 2 and then test it again. The voltage is better, but it still isn't symmetric, which leads me down the rabbit hole of electrical phase angles. I explain the reason the voltages aren't symmetric, and demonstrate it with an electrical circuit simulator. I do a power and efficiency test to find it produces over 1300 watts at 1800 RPM at 98% efficiency! Then I test out how it will work with a VFD. It does, but I'm not sure the efficiency will be adequate for the hydro setup, so that remains to be seen. Now we are going to move on and rebuild the generator-turbine assembly and get this system producing in coming videos.
