What happened to the “Big Three” leaders „Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin“ after World War II? At the end of WWII, the Allied leaders Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin stood together at Yalta to shape the postwar world. But their personal fates were very different. Roosevelt never saw the end of the war. He died of a massive stroke in April 1945, just weeks before Germany’s surrender, leaving his successor to handle the final phase of WWII and the emerging Cold War. Churchill, despite leading Britain through its darkest hours, lost the general election in July 1945 — even before the war against Japan had ended. He suddenly went from wartime leader to Leader of the Opposition, before returning as Prime Minister in 1951. Stalin, in contrast, emerged from the war at the height of his power. He tightened his grip on Eastern Europe, expanded Soviet influence, and became one of the central figures of the Cold War until his death in 1953. So while the “Big Three” shaped the outcome of World War II, the end of the war marked the end of one leader, the fall of another, and the rise of the third.
