Glitched Worlds: Season 1 (Super Mario Bros. Full Episodes)

Step beyond Worlds 1–8 and into the unknown. In this series, Retro Mark explores the hidden and glitched worlds of Super Mario Bros. levels that were never meant to be seen. Using techniques like cartridge swapping, Game Genie codes, and hex editing, each episode dives deeper into broken, unstable, and sometimes completely unplayable versions of the game. From looping levels and corrupted environments to worlds that simply stop working… this is the most immersive journey into Mario’s glitched reality. How far do the Glitched Worlds go?

Part 5 of the Glitched Worlds investigation takes us into Worlds 49–58: a stretch of corrupted levels where the Super Mario Bros cartridge begins to behave like it’s losing entire pieces of itself. Worlds start to freeze, Worlds that always repeat themselves, and some worlds don’t load Mario or anything at all. In this episode, I document each world exactly as it appears inside the 256 world memory corruption glitch found in the original NES version of Super Mario Bros. These aren’t ROM hacks, they’re the real deal, unintended spaces inside the game’s data or so we thought. WHAT I COVER IN THIS EPISODE: Timecodes 0:00 Introduction 0:36 World 49 – The return of the frozen, unplayable world 1:04 World 50 – An infinite loop of Second Quest 1-1 1:31 World 51 – A controlled collapse from 4-2 into an endless 6-2 loop 2:07 World 52 – A world that loads without Mario, sound, or level data 2:37 World 53 – A convincing fake normal world that resets the game 3:09 World 54 – A repeated echo of earlier corrupted layouts 3:38 World 55 – Another missing world, identical to World 52 4:02 World 56 – A rotating sequence of 1-3, 2-3, and 2-1 4:39 World 57 – An endless coin bonus cloud area 5:05 World 58 – An underwater 4-3 with a grey Bowser mid–level 6:01 Outro/Ending If you’re new to the series, start with: Part 1 (Worlds 9–18) https://youtu.be/lern5Q0jSmQ Part 2 (Worlds 19–28) https://youtu.be/wvkbpDzvvJ4 Part 3 (Worlds 29–38) https://youtu.be/gD78k_v1qtQ Part 4 (Worlds 39–48) https://youtu.be/bI0fFjQT358 This project documents all 256 glitched worlds using original NES hardware behavior, TAS and preserved through emulation for clarity. Part 6 is coming soon — and the worlds ahead grow even more unstable.
