Subscribe, it's FREE! Starting with the Five Axles Rest Stop, a raider camp made up of four large trucks and their trailers. [the name five axles is likely inspired by how many axles a standard semi-truck combined with a trailer has…five axles] This is one of those rare places that can basically destroy itself. Shooting the trucks will usually set off a chain reaction that tears through the entire stop, often taking most of the raiders with it. But that’s not the best thing about this location, what is, can be found inside one of the trucks. Tucked away in a container full of tires, is a holodisk labelled “partial CB radio backup.” What you actually get in-game is only part of a larger recording. A broken exchange between two truckers, one person with a Boston accent and the other was supposed to have a Southern drawl. Only the first section made it into the final version of the game, while the rest can only be found in the game’s files. For some reason the audio is labelled “DONOTUSEtruckerVoiceTypeNPC,” suggesting the recording was never meant to be properly finalised in its original form. On top of that, the credits behind it are just as strange. The cut Southern voice was handled by audio director Mark Lampert, while the Boston-accented driver was voiced by lead designer Emil Pagliarulo, meaning he almost appeared in fallout 3. As for the rest of the truckers, they seem to have met up successfully, using their trucks to create a circle, although the truckers are now long gone, but their fortifications are still standing.
