Currently Playing: Turkish Resident Evil Meets Devil May Cry | Kabus 22

Turkish Resident Evil - with a dash of Devil May Cry, and a spoonful of Eurojank. If that doesn't get you intrigued about Kabus 22, I don't know what will. • PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/boulderpunch • ONE-TIME DONATIONS: https://ko-fi.com/boulderpunch • DISCORD: https://discord.gg/2AfRXbM2hg Timestamps: 00:00 - Prelude 02:56 - Kabus 22 Intro 12:27 - Kabus 22 Combat 17:30 - Exploration & Puzzles of Kabus 22 19:40 - Plot & Major Bats of Kabus 22 32:03 - Kabus 22 Gets Cuhrayzee 36:10 - Kabus 22 Returns to Survival Horror 50:42 - The Making of Kabus 22 54:12 - In Conclusion of Kabus 22 56:19 - Post Video Q&A Kabus 22 is one of the more oddball, obscure titles I've covered on the channel. A mid 2000s release from a small, scrappy group of developers from Turkey. There are several oddities and bizarre design choices within Kabus 22. There are quirks to how it handles its exploration and item progression that can hinder its flow. Ones that lead to frustration and tedium in backtracking. I'm not quite sure what to make of its story. But it's full of heart and charm that outweigh its shortcomings. Some due its goofy early survival horror feel. Even though it was a mid 2000s release. While a bit rough around the edges, it's action heavy combat can be fun. There are stretches where they show a strong understanding of the classic Resident Evil formula. And then you have the Devil May Cry elements within Kabus 22. Yes, amongst the survival horror, we get a stretch of slicing and dicing foes. Now it's nowhere close to the deep combat that Devil May Cry can offer. But there's still plenty of amusement, charm, and fun to be had with it. I love these kind of games where a small development team had big ambitions, but not a big budget. But they still took a swing at it, making the most of what they had available. Kabus 22 is an interesting game from a bygone era. Releasing in a bit of a transitional period. It's a bit of an indie game before indie games existed. A bit before bountiful resources became available for making games and distributing them. When you had to go through far more major hurdles to make a game and reach an audience. Is it an overlooked gem that's a must-play of the genre? I wouldn't go that far. But if you love to delve into the weird, the overlooked, the obscure. Kabus 22 is worth checking out.
