Sir Ansbach, also known as Pureblood Knight Ansbach, is one of the most compelling characters in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, playing a pivotal role in the shadow realm and Miquella’s grand design. Once the feared commander of Mohg’s elite Pureblood Knights, Ansbach served Lord Mohg of Blood with unwavering loyalty, wielding the infamous Bloodflame Blade. Rumor even credits him with cleaving open Miquella the Kind in the past. However, Ansbach’s story takes a dramatic turn when he abandons blind allegiance. Under the charm that grips Mohg’s dynasty, Ansbach becomes a reluctant investigator of Miquella’s mystery. Freeing himself from the charm, he begins to trace the cryptic crosses and symbols left behind by Kindly Miquella throughout the Realm of Shadow. During his quest, Ansbach learns that Miquella plans to use Mohg’s corpse as a vessel for his king consort, exposing a chilling facet of the Divine plan. Once liberated from enchantment, Ansbach confronts his past and even duels Needle Knight Leda, with the Tarnished able to intervene. If he survives, he aids the Tarnished in battles against Leda, Dryleaf Dane, and their allies in Enir Ilim. In the climactic finale, even though Ansbach knows the Tarnished slew Mohg, he bears no grudge. He sees Mohg’s death as honorable and considers it part of fate’s design. And though he fights valiantly alongside the Tarnished and other allies against Promised Consort Radahn and Miquella, Ansbach ultimately meets his end before the Gate of Divinity, dying as a redeemed knight and loyal soul.
