We are moving forward with the build, and after prepping the site and digging the initial trenches in the last episode, today we dive straight into one of the most important phases: excavating the main foundation. For this heavy and highly precise work, we jump behind the controls of the CAT 309 CR excavator. But as you know, we don't dig blindly around here, so first things first: we bring out our laser surveyor and set it up at the two key points on the site. For this phase of the foundation, our target depth is exactly -0.70 meters. With our levels locked in, we start moving dirt. Since we are digging out the main footprint of the house, the volume of dirt is much larger than the trenches from the other day, so dumping it next door won't cut it anymore. That's where our Renault C480 dump truck comes into play. We will be loading the dirt straight from the excavator into the truck and making runs to the landfill to dump the material and keep our job site completely clean.
