In December 2025, poet Śivani Howe will deliver three lectures on "The Writer's Life" and "The Art of Critique." The lectures will be available to all members on Versed. "This lecture on the writer’s life considers the poetic process as a holistic practice of engagement and expression; in other words, a way of life. The lecture will guide you through the essential dialectic of the creative cycle that involves an inhalation and exhalation, the breathing in that constitutes attention and experience, and the breathing out of the disciplined process of composition. The lecture provides a structured framework to shepherd a poem from its initial, raw conception born of experience, through the stages of journaling, drafting and re-vision to resolution. Students will learn how to find inspiration and how to overcome self-doubts and begin the writing process. And students will gain the skills for actively cultivating inspiration through reading, observation, memory, activity, and engaging with lived experience; and how to internalize the central tenet: 'The poet must serve the poem.'"
