Can **GPT-6 Astra actually automate real Revit and BIM work?** I connected GPT-6 Astra with Autodesk Revit through MCP and gave the AI three increasingly difficult Revit tasks to see what it could actually accomplish. This time, I wanted to go beyond basic Revit modelling and test workflows that BIM professionals deal with regularly. I tested whether GPT-6 Astra could: • Automatically dimension multiple Revit floor plans • Find and resolve Revit model warnings • Create a parametric Revit door family from scratch • Add width and height parameters • Generate door panels, frames, swings and handles • Flex the AI-generated Revit family inside a real project The first test was automatic Revit dimensioning. I gave the AI one completed floor plan as a reference and asked it to dimension the remaining plans using the same logic. Next, I tested something much more relevant to BIM coordination and model management: **Revit warnings**. I asked GPT-6 Astra to investigate overlapping wall sweep warnings and attempt to resolve the underlying geometry instead of simply deleting model elements. Finally came the hardest challenge: **creating a parametric Revit family with AI**. Starting from an empty door family template, I asked GPT-6 Astra to create a 2100 mm × 900 mm parametric door with adjustable dimensions, door swing, frame, panel and handle. The result wasn't perfect. The family generated successfully and many of the parameters worked, but flexing the family also exposed geometry problems and Revit warnings. And that's exactly why these tests are interesting. AI connected directly to BIM software is becoming capable of doing much more than answering questions. Through Revit MCP, AI agents can increasingly analyze model information, modify Revit elements and automate repetitive BIM workflows. This doesn't mean BIM professionals suddenly become unnecessary. But it could significantly change how we approach repetitive documentation, QA/QC, family creation, model management and BIM automation.
