First was the disappearance of long serving and reportedly very popular Episcopalian Bishop William F. Faber, who failed to return from a pre-dinner stroll along a familiar lakeside trail in mid-July of that year. A month later the much younger Dr. Frederick H. Lumley, an associate professor at Ohio State, vanished from the park’s northern extreme during what should have been a very straightforward hike. Neither man’s fate was ever fully explained, and in both cases witness statements seemed inconsistent or even downright dishonest - and in one case it almost seems like the authorities were trying to make the whole story go away before anyone could start asking too many questions.
