The brass cornet, dating from 1897, belonged to Keith, a bandleader in a small Welsh village, and was inherited by Lewys after his grandfather passed away on Boxing Day 2021. Lewys spent hours learning the instrument under the tuition of his grandfather, and the cornet holds incredibly precious memories of his grandpa Keith filling the house with music. But in his later years Keith was unable to play the instrument β and its once vibrant exterior is now dull and dented. Lewys is hoping that musical-instrument expert Pete Woods can get the cornet back into the perfect condition for it to be proudly played once again. Next in the barn is Maria who has a unique challenge for ceramics expert Kirsten Ramsay. She's brought with her a handcrafted sculpture made by her mother Betina, an artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. The marble sculpture is the first in a triptych of works depicting a growing organic object; a work of which Maria's mother was particularly proud. Betina and Maria were very close, regularly travelling together so when Maria passed away in 2003 it was a very tough time. On a trip to Argentina she impulsively decided to bring the sculpture back in her luggage, but on arrival in the UK it had split from the wooden base with pieces sheared off of the sculpture itself. Kirsten has the tricky task of repairing the delicate breakage around the fixing point where the heavy sculpture must affix to the wooden base so calls in Dom to assist with a secondary support, together their teamwork means that Maria can proudly display her mother's final work once again. The barn's final visitors are another NHS family. Husband and wife Bill and Kate and their daughter Fiona have all worked for the NHS. They've brought along an old wooden desk that Bill saved from being thrown away when he was a student at nursing school in 1987. Bill went on to do all his studying at the desk and subsequently spent 37 years specialising in mental health. His wife Kate has worked for many years as an NHS administrator, also using the desk to study for her own qualifications. Now daughter Fiona is working as an Occupational Therapist in an NHS community mental health team, something which makes her parents very proud. Woodwork whizz Will Kirk is tasked with revamping this important little desk in tribute to their hard work.
