Episode 163 Abstract: Tomography of n-qubit quantum states is a well-studied problem in quantum information theory and is known to require exponential in n many copies of the unknown quantum state. In this talk, I will describe how Gibbs states of local Hamiltonians, stabilizer states, phase states can be learned using polynomial in n many copies and discuss how some of these learning algorithms might be provably hard to implement when one restricts the quantum algorithm to perform just separable measurements or statistical measurements. Bio: I am a Senior Research Scientist at IBM Almaden. Prior to this, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Theoretical Physics, MIT. I received my Ph.D. in 2018 from Centrum Wiskune & Informatica and QuSoft, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Before that I finished my M.Math in Mathematics from University of Waterloo and Institute of Quantum computing.
