Although nearly 30 years old, quantum error correction is just starting to see serious experimental implementation. However, these implementations of quantum error-correction face hurdles associated with current error rates and connectivity in real-world devices. I’ll talk about some of these challenges and approaches to overcome them in IBM hardware. Along the way, we’ll look at some of the fundamentally important graphs that can make or break quantum error-correction. Bio: Theodore J. Yoder received the PhD degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in 2018, and has been a research staff member with the quantum computing theory group at IBM T.J. Watson Research since then. His current interests include quantum algorithms and quantum error correction, with focus on novel error-correcting codes and architectural considerations for practical usage. -- The Qiskit Seminar Series is a deep dive into various academic and research topics within the quantum community.
