Qiskit’s ecosystem of open-source software has grown tremendously over the past few years, giving developers and researchers tools to explore everything from processor design to gate calibration to circuit optimization and error correction and algorithm development. These tools are intended to help with the hard work that it takes to scale up quantum hardware and software beyond the classical regime. A key aspect of extending the computational reach of quantum computers is to ensure that quantum circuits are tailored as best as possible to the hardware. Quantum circuits can be represented in varying degrees of abstraction, from high-level mathematical and functional representations down to timed pulses, and many levels in between. In this talk I will show examples of how Qiskit’s compiler scales to large problems, optimizes circuits at multiple abstractions, can be retargeted to various instruction sets, and can be used by researchers to plug in novel circuit transformations.
