In this multipart series I explore the phenomenon of interpreting "Bible Prophecy" and why it has utterly disappointed its devotees and adherents through the ages--with a 100% rate of failure! We look at both the texts of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, but also the long history of interpretation and predictions of the end of the age, beginning with the Dead Sea Scroll group around 100 BCE, all the way down to our own time--which has proven to be a heyday of Prophetic Schemes and Predictions.

Many Bible readers assume that "Bible Prophecy" refers to the FUTURE--what is called "eschatology." In fact, as the very makeup of the Hebrew Bible demonstrates, such is not the case. Even the book of Daniel, that many would consider quintessentially "prophetic," is not included among the Biblical Prophets. Jesus, Paul, and other early Christians routinely refer to Torah, Prophets, Writings (aka Psalms), and the ideas behind those categories from the 2nd Temple period (see Luke 16:29; 24:44: Acts 24:14; 2 Timothy 3:15, etc.).
