Trigger: canon typical violence, flashing lights (there's a version without flashing lights too~) Help! I don't know how this escalated like this! My initial idea was to time the clip where Shen Wei jumps in between Zhao Yunlan and Ye Zun, and now it's derailed to a potential alternative universe canon-divergent casefic plotbunny that's a crossover between Inception and Devil's Advocate(which is free to a good home, I just ask that you credit me for the idea if you use it XD). So this is some sort of alternative universe, where similar things happen as canon drama, but the consequences and results aren't always the same. The idea is that Zhao Yunlan has helped Lord Envoy in Dixing, but he doesn't remember it because the Envoy wipes his mind. When the conflict escalates aboveground, Zhao Yunlan requests Lord Envoy's help. Zhao Yunlan falls into a dream induced sleep because of the Mountain Awl, and he sees his entire life with Shen Wei and how their relationship turns complicated as time goes by. Zhao Yunlan refuses the idea of marriage (coming from a broken home), but can't refuse a Shen Wei that pleads in the rain. The longevity dial in this universe is sort of a soul life bonding thing? When the Envoy gets captured in Dixing, Zhao Yunlan goes to save him and they have their worst fight ever: "I didn't save you to have you use all your energy to take care of me". With this weakness in their bond, it's easy for their enemy to mind control Zhao Yunlan to do their bidding - killing Shen Wei, and almost succeeds. It triggers memories of another life, that they had shared before this one, and it strengthens their bond again. They manage to defeat the villain and Zhao Yunlan kind of resigns to the fact that Shen Wei will always be ready with his breakfast congee no matter what. This is where Zhao Yunlan wakes up from Mountain Awl dream. I don't know if this even makes sense to anyone, and sorry for the wall of text LOL
