Japan’s infamous Unit 731, operating in occupied China, carried out horrific biological warfare experiments using plague, cholera, anthrax, and other pathogens. But it wasn’t confined to the lab. Japanese forces dropped plague-infected fleas over Chinese cities, poisoned wells, and even released contaminated food to test cholera outbreaks. A 1941 bombing raid over Changde scattered ceramic bombs filled with plague — killing thousands, including Japanese troops. And after the war?
