Currently Playing: Fixing Track Adjuster Springs. Harder Than Expected!

Work continues on repairing these huge track adjusters. When I discovered the grease cylinder seals were leaking, I split the track, removed the idler wheel and grease cylinder, only to find the coil spring assembly was also broken. I've gotten new seals for the cylinders now, but I need to figure out what to do with these spring assemblies. I start out with the other side to check that spring and find it is also broken. I discuss what the pre-tensioning bolt is for and decide to fix them. I discover that making 2 inch diameter bolts 34 inches long is a tall order on my lathe. And then I start putting the spring assembly back together... A couple of additions: I believe I was missing something on letting the grease out of the track adjuster. If I had cleaned out the area further I think there is a nut behind the grease zerk to let the grease out. Just removing the zerk won't do it. I did lubricate the tapered washer on the bolt head side with grease, but forgot to put it in the video.
