Currently Playing: Stopping my Windows 98 Machine from Burning down the House - Fan and Cooling upgrades

My compact Compaq Windows 98 rig was running dangerously hot. With a 1GHz Pentium 3 and an FX 5200 packed into such a small chassis, thermals were always going to be tight, but something was clearly wrong. I set out to replace the stock cooling with modern, quiet Noctua fans, only to uncover the real culprit: the power supply fan was completely dead because it was never plugged in at all. Once the PSU was sorted, I put cooling to the test. We compare an all-copper CPU heatsink against the stock heatsink fitted with a custom Noctua fan to find the best thermal balance. Finally, we put the finished, whisper-quiet Windows 98 sleeper rig through its paces with some classic Half-Life gameplay. ❤️ Want to support the channel?
