The Sony Vaio VGN-TX3XP was the pinnacle of mobile computing in 2006. Featuring a carbon fiber chassis and an incredibly slim profile for its time, this "ultra portable" was a dream machine for Windows XP power users. In this video, I take you through the entire journey of bringing this machine back to life. We start with the physical hardware, including a teardown to fix a stubborn disc drive, and move into the software struggle. While the temptation to "just install Linux" is always there, I explain why sticking with Windows XP was actually the right move for this specific hardware. We also take a deep dive into the design, the unique features of the TX series, and exactly what my plans are for this tiny piece of tech history.
