On Nov. 30, 1945, The Nuremberg Tribunal held a special session to consider a motion by Rudolf Hess' counsel concerning his client's competence. Chief American Prosecutor Robert H. Jackson responded that the majority of the evidence found Hess to be capable of defending himself. During the Hearing, Hess surprised all and read a statement stating he has been feigning amnesia. The next day Chief Judge Lawrence announced the Tribunal's verdict.
