Philippines' Most Shocking Stories (FULL EPISODES)

Currently Playing: EP 37: Waray-Waray Gang Kidnap-Slay: The Betti Chua Sy Case | Philippines’ Most Shocking Stories

Hosted by reporter Jedsie Cruzat, this episode tells the story of Betti Chua Sy, a corporate finance executive whose kidnapping and killing in November 2003 became one of the most closely watched kidnap-for-ransom cases in the country. Sy was driving to work in Novaliches, Quezon City when armed men blocked her vehicle, forced her into another car and brought her to a safehouse in Cavite. Her family received a ransom demand of P10 million, but the kidnappers never got the money. Her body was later found inside a garbage bag along a roadside in Parañaque. The investigation led authorities to members of the Waray-Waray kidnap-for-ransom group. One suspect, Mariolito Demol, was a former employee of the Sy family who allegedly provided information about her routine. In 2009, 19 accused gang members were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. “Philippines’ Most Shocking Stories” is a YouTube series from ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs that looks back into real-life events that stunned the nation — stories that made headlines, triggered investigations and sparked public outcry.
