THE CLOCK IS TICKING… 36 HOURS TO GET THE 8X8 READY! After everything this build has thrown at us, we’re entering the final stages — but there’s no time to slow down. With just 36 hours until more than 400 people are due to see the truck at a huge meet and greet at Trax Hydraulics HQ, the pressure is on to get our 8x8 overland truck looking more complete than ever before. And first up… THE DECKING. After all the problems, redesigns and Plan A, B, C and eventually D from the last episode, the huge pull-out decking is FINALLY finished! It’s been one of the most challenging jobs of these final stages, so seeing it completed is a massive moment. But there’s still a long list of jobs to get through. Inside the truck, we work our way through the final sealing, the newly upholstered sofa cushions are fitted, the bedroom mattress goes in and the interior starts to feel less like a construction project and much more like the home we’ve spent so long imagining. Outside, the remaining fabrication work is finished off, while up front the driver's cab seats are finally installed — another huge step towards getting this monster ready for the road. Every job ticked off the list brings us closer to the finish line… and closer to our deadline. Then, after one final push, it’s time to take the truck to Trax Hydraulics HQ for something pretty special. More than 400 of you turned up to the meet and greet to see the 8x8 in person, say hello and celebrate this incredible build with us. After spending so long working away on this truck, seeing that many people come out to support the journey was a pretty amazing way to end an incredibly intense few days. The 8x8 is closer than ever. But the story isn’t quite over yet… Next week, we enter the FINAL episode of the build series as we pack up, say our goodbyes, deal with those inevitable final teething problems and prepare to close this enormous chapter once and for all.
